Open letter to the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky
Dear President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Oleksandrovich!
We appeal to you to demonstrate political will in supporting and facilitating the accelerated consideration by the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine of the draft Resolution No. 8195 “On the recognition of the state sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Tatarstan”, registered on November 9, 2022 on the official website of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine.
August 30, 2025 will mark 35 years since the adoption of the Declaration of State Sovereignty of the Republic of Tatarstan – an act that has become a symbol of the aspiration of the Tatar people for freedom and independence. This day is a reminder that the right to self-determination is inalienable and sacred for every nation.
However, for three and a half decades, the historical will of the Tatars has not been realized. The Republic of Tatarstan remains part of the Russian Federation, which has lost the characteristics of a federal state and turned into a centralized empire. Today, Tatarstan is effectively deprived of the opportunity to independently determine its future.
We are convinced that Ukraine’s recognition of the state sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Tatarstan will contribute to the restoration of historical justice, the strengthening of the principles of freedom and democracy, and will also be a demonstration of the solidarity of all free peoples fighting against imperialism and occupation.
