Will Poland recognise the independence of Tatarstan?
Last week, a group of Tatars living in Poland approached twin brothers Nafis and Rafis Kashapov with an offer to write a letter to Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk — and also to meet with him — and call for the recognition of the independence of the Republic of Tatarstan. We are deeply grateful to them for this initiative; unfortunately, we cannot name them, as their relatives live in Belarus and Russia. Given the respectful attitude of the Polish authorities towards the Crimean Tatar people and the Kazan Tatars, we are initiating steps to organise a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk.
We have the following tasks: Marat Akhmerov, Deputy Prime Minister of the Government-in-Exile of Independent Tatarstan, is preparing a letter and documents regarding the Republic of Tatarstan; he will then hand these documents over to Vyacheslav Sivchik, Honorary Consul of the Government-in-Exile of Independent Tatarstan in Belarus, who, in turn, will have to deliver them to the office of the Prime Minister of Poland, Donald Tusk.
In the event of a positive response from the Office of the Prime Minister of Poland confirming the meeting with Donald Tusk, the delegation will include: Rafis Kashapov – Prime Minister of the Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile, Vyacheslav Sivchik – Honorary Consul of the Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile in Belarus. Prime Minister of the Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile.
It is worth recalling that the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine received from us documents recognising the independence of Tatarstan in accordance with the results of the 1992 referendum on state sovereignty; however, it is not excluded that Poland will be the first to recognise the independence of Tatarstan, followed by Ukraine and other countries.
A representative of the World Congress of Tatars in Europe approached us with a desire to participate in this process, but we refused him – because the Congress is controlled by Mintimer Shaimiev and Rustam Minikhanov.

Sincerely, Press Service of the Government of Independent Tatarstan in Exile
