Rafis Kashapov: My response to those who call on us to live by the laws of feudalism
On 2nd May, I published a post titled: “ I will happily participate in the UK elections on 7th May 2026, and will explain why later .” After publishing this post, 7-8 people contacted me. They advised me not to participate in the UK elections, saying that Britain, Europe and the US, the so-called democratic countries, have never protected our interests.
My answer:
We, Tatar public figures, have been fighting for the independence of the Tatar people for many years, including the leaders of public and political organisations of various nations.
However, we find support in European countries, including Ukraine, the United States, Japan, Great Britain, Canada, and Taiwan, where we are provided with platforms for discussion, politicians meet with us and support us, and our pressing national issues are covered in their media. We have repeatedly appealed to political parties and government bodies in Turkic and Muslim countries, but have received no response in favour of the colonised peoples of Muscovy. We receive support only from activists in these countries.
We remind you that even when Russian troops killed 250,000 Muslim Chechens, 42,000 of whom were children, not a single Muslim or Turkic country supported Ichkeria.
What are elections?
Elections are a common form of citizen participation in politics, in which people vote to elect representatives to legislative bodies or officials. Do we see such elections in Russia, North Korea, China, Belarus, or Turkmenistan? Of course not, where the citizens of these countries have become slaves to their rulers. But why are people fleeing the former Soviet Union and Muslim countries, namely to Europe and the United States, where elections are held freely?
